February is the National Children’s Dental health month and is an ideal time for parents to help their children maintain a healthy smile. Supervising their brushing and flossing will help ensure that their oral health is excellent. Limit candy and fruit drinks, as these treats are harmful to teeth. Sport drinks are high in acid and sugar, and are also harmful to teeth. Young children, around six, will begin to lose their baby teeth. This is an exciting time for them as they see their friends with funny smiles, and anticipate money or a small gift from the Tooth Fairy! When your child notices a loose tooth, encourage them to wash their hands before they wiggle and twist.
